The news about the production of VAZ cars at the Zaporizhzhia Automobile Plant has become scandalous without exaggeration and caused negativity among many Ukrainians. Basically, this is logical considering the well-known events and relations with Russia.
However, there are two sides to the coin here. We will not talk about the fact of producing Ladas in Ukraine – comment for yourself if you want. But the other side of the coin is that although Lada is Lada, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance owns more than half of OAO AvtoVAZ.
So will Renault or Ladas be produced in Ukraine, and will they? The French Ambassador to Ukraine Etienne de Poncins gave an answer to this question during a visit to Zaporizhzhia, reports a correspondent from Ukrinform. “There is a possibility of implementing the project (it is about resuming the production of Lada cars – ed.), but this crisis has caused the Renault company, which is indeed studying this possibility, to slightly slow down and halt its implementation. The fact is that the entire global automotive industry is currently in a very difficult situation, and this may affect the prospects for implementing this project. However, it remains on the agenda, and the decision will be made according to the situation,” commented Etienne de Poncins.
And do you know how much Soviet cars cost in today’s money?
