Powerful electric AMG off-roader with over 1000 hp will outperform the Lamborghini Urus

Mercedes-AMG tests new electric SUV on the Nürburgring

Mercedes-AMG is actively working on a new electric SUV that will become a competitor to the Lamborghini Urus. A prototype is already undergoing testing on the legendary Nürburgring track, where engineers are checking its dynamics and handling. The car will receive the same AMG.EA platform as the upcoming four-door AMG GT, as well as powerful Yasa axial motors.

According to reports, the model may be offered in two variants: with two or three electric motors. The most powerful version will likely develop up to 1,341 hp, which significantly exceeds the figures of the Ferrari Purosangue with its V12. Although the electric vehicle will not produce the traditional “roaring” sound, AMG promises a synthesized audio accompaniment that will simulate the operation of a gasoline engine.

Design and Technology

Despite the camouflage, it is clear that the SUV will have a low profile, similar to a coupe-crossover, rather than a classic tall off-roader. Among the features are frameless doors, retractable door handles, and adaptive air suspension. The front end will likely differ from conventional Mercedes thanks to a unique illuminated radiator grille.

“Engineers sometimes enter the track via alternative entrances, possibly to avoid cameras or prevent the publication of incorrect lap times,” photographers report.

The production version of the electric AMG SUV is expected to debut in 2027, a year after the presentation of the four-door sedan. This car will become part of the brand’s new line of high-performance electric vehicles, which will combine environmental friendliness with traditional AMG dynamic characteristics. Given market trends, such models could become key to maintaining interest in the brand in the context of the transition to “green” technologies.
