The rarest supercar of a famous rocker went under the hammer for a record sum en

In Paris, a rare 1977 Lamborghini Countach LP400 was sold at RM Sotheby’s auction. It fetched 944 thousand dollars, which is a record sum for the legendary Lamborghini supercar.

Such a high price is explained by two factors. First, it is indeed a rare model—only 157 Lamborghini Countach of the first series were produced.

Among the features of the car is a unique periscope on the roof designed to improve the view from the rearview mirror. The Lamborghini Countach LP400 is equipped with a four-liter V12 and can accelerate to a hundred in 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 km/h.

Secondly, this particular car has an interesting history. The Lamborghini supercar was built to order for the famous British rocker Rod Stewart. The singer loved it so much that he even took it with him on tour in the USA and Australia.

However, in 2002, Rod Stewart sold the car, and the new owner decided to modify the Lamborghini with non-original tuning. The car was repainted, a body kit was added, and the roof was cut off. In addition, the steering wheel was moved from the right to the left side.

In 2013, the car changed owners again, and it was restored to its original condition by Lamborghini specialists. As we can see, the car’s sad history did not affect its price.

By the way, this record price for the Lamborghini Countach may be broken as soon as March. Another coupe with a periscope will be sold at auction—it may not have a celebrity owner, but its condition is perfect.
