Renault Duster transformed into a hybrid crossover

As it is known, Renault Duster in Ukraine can be purchased with a manual or robotic dual-clutch transmission. But the company ZF has offered something new for the budget crossover, essentially turning it into a hybrid.

The Germans first applied the eAMT hybrid transmission on Renault Duster, which is a technologically simple ‘robot’ (with 1 clutch), supplemented with an electric motor on the rear axle of the car.

As stated by ZF, such a transmission does not have the disadvantages of a ‘robot’, since the typical jerks (for such transmissions) are smoothed out by the electric motor, which engages when the clutch is disengaged.

Moreover, the electric motor assists during kickdown and when the rear wheels slip. This means that the front-wheel-drive Duster with such a transmission is somewhat all-wheel-drive, albeit not a full-fledged 4WD.

Another advantage of the hybrid transmission crossover is that the hybrid Renault Duster can run solely on electric power and recovers energy when braking.

Whether this hybrid Duster will appear on sale is unknown. The Germans are confident that the new transmission will be indispensable for this type of vehicle format and believe in the potential of such a solution.
