Rare Mercedes W124 from the 80s sold for a record $600,000 (photo)

Thus, this Mercedes became the most expensive car in the 124th body in history! We are talking about the 1988 Mercedes-Benz 6.0 AMG Hammer Coupe. At first glance, it may seem completely ordinary and unremarkable. But fans of the German automotive industry and Mercedes know well that this is just a diamond on wheels…

This is because no more than 30 (!) of these cars were produced. Their production began when the German brand had just acquired AMG. In simple terms, the Mercedes-Benz W124 6.0 AMG Hammer is an early creation of the court tuning studio.

Rumor has it that almost all the specimens were “snapped up” by collectors from the very beginning, but one of them recently appeared for sale. The 1988 car has traveled only 31,000 kilometers (15 years of its life it just stood in the garage), so when it appeared at auction, everyone understood that it would not be sold cheaply, but hardly anyone could predict that the unique 124 coupe under the hammer would fetch a fantastic $661,800!

For such money, today you can buy a brand-new Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, or Lamborghini. But the buyer of this German Hammer clearly wanted an oldtimer, which, by the way, will still become even more expensive over time. It should be noted that the Mercedes 6.0 AMG Hammer Coupe is equipped with a 5.5-liter V8 (bored out to 6 liters) with a power output of 385 horsepower. The brakes, suspension – reworked. Externally, the car stands out with its exclusive Black Pearl color, as well as 17-inch AMG Aero 1 wheels with Dunlop SP Sport 8000 tires. Inside – gray leather and wood.

It should be noted that this is not the first time a 124 Mercedes has sold for more than a new Maybach. It is enough to recall at least the Mercedes-Benz E60 AMG W124 1993 for more than $200,000 and the Mercedes W124 Hartge F1.
