The American website iSeeCars, specializing in used cars, studied data on defects in cars from the 2013-2017 production years. In particular, it refers to cars that the manufacturer recalled the least to fix certain defects and malfunctions (according to NHTSA). Comparing this data with Consumer Reports’ reliability ratings, researchers identified the most reliable 5-year-old cars.
Notably, we are specifically talking about the most reliable 5-year-old cars because most of the vehicles on the list appeared on the market in 2013-2014 and only a small portion of them underwent technical improvements. Facelifts are not considered in this case since they do not affect reliability.
Strangely enough, the rating is topped by an inexpensive Korean model – Hyundai Accent. Overall, the overwhelming majority of the most reliable cars from 2013 to 2017 are Asian cars, with the exception of a couple of vehicles.
