For most people, a Geländewagen is associated with a powerful and roaring 8-cylinder gas-guzzler. We’re not even talking about the G63 and G65. The weakest and smallest engine, however, is in the diesel version G350d. But soon the most affordable modification of the G-Wagon will be released on the market with a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine.
The budget Mercedes-Benz G-Class will not differ externally from its counterparts, and to avoid buyers feeling embarrassed driving a “brick” with a modest engine, it will be designated not as G200, but as G350 without the letter “d.”
Initially, the basic G-Wagon will only be available for purchase in China, but later, the “cheap” Geländewagen will also appear outside of the Middle Kingdom.
There is no information on the price yet. However, there are details about the engine. Despite its size, it delivers 303 horsepower and develops a torque of 400 Nm. It will be paired with a 9-speed automatic, and according to the Germans, it will ensure quite decent acceleration dynamics. Rumor has it that acceleration to a hundred for the G-Class for the not-so-wealthy will be around 7-8 seconds.
