The Coolest Drag Race of the Year: 12 Supercars and 6000 Horsepower (Video)

The American magazine MotorTrend is once again determining the most driver-friendly car of the year. A mandatory part of the tests is a large-scale drag race of the contenders at a military airfield.

This year, 13 models will compete for the title of the best driver’s car. The McLaren 720S, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack, Honda Civic Type R, Lamborghini Huracán Performante, BMW M5, Ford Mustang GT, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Kia Stinger GT, Audi TT RS, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, and Aston Martin Vantage participated in the quarter-mile race.

Altogether, these cars produce over 6000 horsepower, and the most powerful in this group is the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with 755 horsepower. The least powerful contender, the Mazda MX-5, did not participate in the drag race. Notably, for the first time, an SUV participated in the race – the 510-horsepower Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV, which set a Nürburgring record.
