What to do in case of a Chornobyl NPP explosion if you are in a car

What will happen if the Zaporizhzhia NPP explodes and how to behave if you are on the road during a nuclear alarm signal? TopGir prepared a separate post dedicated to the main actions of drivers and passengers. After all, the Zaporizhzhia NPP is what worries not only every Ukrainian now. You can read about using potassium iodide and more on every site probably, but here is about actions in a car – on ours. Since this is a hypothetical scenario (but real, given the inadequacy of the neighbor), it is important above all to remain calm and act wisely. Here are some tips that can help you in such a situation: Advice for those who are nearby: Seeing a flash in the sky (or its reflection from surfaces), do not look in that direction at all. This threatens corneal burns, flash blindness, and eye burns. Stop the car in a safe part of the road. Close all windows, doors, hatches, and any openings, block the airflow from outside. Take a defensive position (cover your head with your hands and lower your elbows on your knees). If possible, cover your ears with headphones – this is protection from barotrauma. Cover your mouth and nose with a mask, clothing fabric, or scarf, breathe through them until you find shelter: this is to protect you from the entry of radionuclides into the body. After the explosion, you must immediately find shelter. The main criterion is minute availability. If there is no specially equipped shelter nearby, the basement or the center of large concrete buildings with a minimal number of windows and doors are best suited.
