The current GT3 RS may outperform the Porsche 911 GT2 RS in aerodynamics, but the older model has a serious power advantage and can still post incredible lap times when taken to the track. It is this difference in “muscle” that explains why the older car still attracts so much attention.
The all-new GT2 RS is believed to be very close, but collectors still can’t get enough of the 991-generation model. Earlier this week in the US, an example with low mileage was sold at Bring a Trailer auction for $1 million. This is the first 911 GT2 RS whose price has publicly crossed the seven-figure mark.

What drove the record price
Two key factors played a role in selling the car for so much. Most importantly, it has covered only 593 miles (954 km) since production and is equipped with the $18,000 Weissach package. The likely second factor is that the body is painted in Viola Purple Metallic from the Paint to Sample program.
Although not everyone dreams of driving a bright purple Porsche, limited models in bold colors are increasingly popular on the secondary market – precisely because of their uniqueness. The car was sold together with the owner’s manual, a cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New York State title.

An interior that looks brand new
The interior of this 911 GT2 RS also has elements we haven’t seen before. Most notably, the carbon bucket seats with purple and white inserts. However, the purple on the seats does not match the purple of the body. Given the minimal mileage, the interior looks flawless.

Under the hood of the GT2 RS is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine producing 700 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. Until the arrival of the new 911 Turbo S with a hybrid powertrain, the GT2 RS remained Porsche’s most powerful model for almost ten years. Until an all-new GT2 RS arrives, it will likely remain the fastest on the track as well.
This sale once again confirms that the market for limited-edition Porsches is not cooling down. Recent generations of the 911 are becoming investment objects, not just cars for enjoyment. And while the new GT2 RS with a hybrid system is expected to be even more powerful, the value of the 991 generation is growing because of its “analog” era. Viola Purple Metallic, near-zero mileage, and the Weissach package make this example unique even among other GT2 RS models. For collectors, it is the ideal combination of rare color, flawless condition, and one of the most aggressive gasoline Porsches before the hybrid era began.
