The Volkswagen Group has announced a recall of vehicles from three of its premium brands – Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. A total of 122 vehicles are of concern due to the risk of fire. The problem lies in the potentially incorrect installation of the high-pressure fuel pump in the fuel system.
Recall Details
The largest number of vehicles affected belongs to the Porsche brand. The company is recalling 107 Panamera, Panamera E-Hybrid, and Cayenne models from model years 2024 to 2026. According to regulators, the fasteners securing the high-pressure fuel pump may not have been tightened sufficiently, which could lead to a fuel leak.
This significantly increases the risk of a fire, and this threat is very real. Earlier this month, a report emerged about a fire in a vehicle from another brand within the same group, which is equipped with an engine assembled on the same production line.
This event affects other brands in the group that use engines assembled on the same production line.
Actual Incidents
The fire involved a 2025 model year Lamborghini Urus. The incident was preceded by a smell of fuel and the illumination of a warning light. There were no fatalities or injuries, but another case occurred shortly after. Although no fire broke out, approximately 16 liters of gasoline were found in the engine crankcase of another Urus.
Cause of the Defect
According to regulatory authorities, the initial stage of fastener tightening was not performed using the standard production tool due to a scanner malfunction. Subsequently, workers incorrectly performed the repair because they did not carry out the final tightening according to specifications. This means the connection between the fuel lines and the pump may not be sufficiently tight.
Scope of the Problem and Resolution
Responsibility for the problem has been assigned to Porsche. In addition to vehicles of this brand, the recall also affects 14 Lamborghini Urus SUVs from the 2025 model year and one Audi SQ7 from the 2025 model year. Therefore, the recall is relatively small, which, however, is little consolation for the owner of the expensive car that caught fire.
To rectify the fault, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, tighten the connection. Technicians will also replace the high-pressure pump and fuel lines if required.
Such incidents involving premium vehicles always attract particular attention, as customers expect the highest quality and safety. The conglomerate’s swift response to specific cases and the organization of the recall indicate an effort to prevent more serious consequences.
