50-Year-Old Chevrolet Sold at Auction for the Price of Two Lamborghini Urus

In the USA, a very rare and very powerful 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 was sold at the Bring a Trailer auction. The 50-year-old sports car went for as much as $610,000.

The price is quite justified since only 116 Chevrolet Corvette L88 models were built in 1969. It was the top version of the model with a racing engine.

The 7-liter V8 officially developed 430 hp, although the actual power was closer to 550 hp. It was deliberately understated, as in the 60-70s in the USA, insurance costs were directly tied to power.

The characteristics of the Chevrolet Corvette L88 were on par with Ferrari and Lamborghini of those years. With a 4-speed manual transmission, the sports car could accelerate to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds and reach 275 km/h. Its racing version won in its class twice at Le Mans.

This Corvette is excellently preserved and has driven only 45,000 km. Moreover, it has won awards at numerous retro car shows. In general, such a high price for a Corvette L88 is not surprising, some examples are even more expensive.
