In the segment of compact crossovers on the Ukrainian market, there is a new player – the Mazda CX-30. The model is unique and quite unconventional by class standards, and we set out to find out what it has to offer. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

In the lineup of the Japanese brand, the newcomer takes its place between the Mazda CX-3 and the CX-5. So, why wasn’t it named CX-4? Because such a model already exists in China.

By dimensions, the Mazda crossover is larger than the CX-3 but smaller than the CX-5 – 4395 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2655 mm. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

The Mazda CX-30 shares its platform with the new “three” and is very similar to the hatchback in design. The long hood, sloping roof, and wide “smile” of the radiator grille give the crossover a striking appearance. The plastic body kit contrasts with the overall image. By the way, all Mazda CX-30s in Ukraine are equipped with 18-inch wheels and LED headlights.

Overall, the quality of finishing is pleasantly surprising. On the instrument panel, the virtual speedometer display is combined with traditional dials. Information is also projected onto the windshield. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

The multimedia display with a diagonal of 8.8 inches is positioned high – at eye level.

It is not touch-sensitive – there is a round joystick near the gear lever for navigation in the menu. By the way, there is also a volume control for the audio (which is typical for Mazda). However, this is more for the passenger – the driver has buttons on the steering wheel.

By crossover standards, the seating position in the Mazda CX-30 is quite low, and together with the high window line, this limits the rearward view. The driver’s seat has an electric drive with memory settings.

The seats in the crossover are comfortable with good lateral support. There is also a convenient sliding armrest. In the second row, it is quite spacious for a car of this size, and even the sloping roof does not significantly reduce headroom – passengers over 180 cm tall have confirmed this. The trunk volume is 430/1406 L, and the fifth door is equipped with an electric drive. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

You can buy the Mazda CX-30 2020 in the top Premium version for 925,700 UAH (starting from 734,100 UAH).

Of course, for this money, you might consider the larger CX-5, but the CX-30 has its advantage – a rich package. It includes keyless access, electric package, heated seats and steering wheel, rain and light sensors, all-around cameras, adaptive cruise control, and a Bose audio system with 12 speakers. Additionally, the Mazda crossover is well-equipped in terms of safety: 7 airbags, collision warning system front and rear, lane and “blind” spot control. By the way, in EuroNCAP crash tests, the car received a record score for adult passenger protection – 99%. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

The familiar two-liter four-cylinder Mazda engine with 150 hp is now complemented by a mild hybrid system and can deactivate cylinders.

Moreover, the engine stops when idling, making it economical. We achieved 8.2 l/100 km in the city and 5.8 l/100 km on the highway compared to the declared 7.3 and 5.3 l/100 km, respectively. By the way, all these systems work almost imperceptibly. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

The engine is quiet, and there is enough mid-range torque. The peak torque of 213 Nm is reached at 4000 rpm.

The automatic transmission tries to keep the rpm as low as possible, although in Sport mode the engine becomes more lively and spins up to 3000-4000 rpm more quickly. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 10.4 seconds, and the top speed is 193 km/h. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

The handling of the Mazda CX-30 is one of the most interesting (if not the most interesting) in its class. The steering is precise, the crossover handles well, and there is minimal body roll in corners. However, the ride is not the smoothest, and it is noticeable on our roads.

The cabin noise insulation is good – you don’t have to raise your voice at 130-140 km/h. Test Drive Mazda CX-30: Style and Technology

The Mazda crossover is more of a city dweller, especially since its ground clearance is not very high (175 mm). Don’t expect outstanding off-road capabilities from it, although it can handle nature outings if needed. However, the new Mazda CX-30 will please with a well-tuned chassis, fuel efficiency, and equipment.
