Toyota honors the end of the Corolla era with a special edition featuring bronze-gold accents ahead of the 2027 model change

This year, the Toyota Corolla celebrates its 60th anniversary. Although the next generation of the model promises significant changes in design and technology, the Japanese automaker has decided to usher out the current generation with a series of anniversary special editions. The first market to receive such vehicles was Taiwan. The “60th Anniversary” special edition was applied to three models at once: the Corolla Altis sedan, the Corolla Cross crossover, and the Corolla Sport hatchback.

Exterior distinctions of the anniversary versions

Let’s start with the Corolla Altis sedan. It features a “bronze gold” finish on the grille and air intakes, giving the car a more premium look. These elements are complemented by signature Corolla decals on the body profile, anniversary emblems on the front fenders, and 17-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish.

On the Corolla Cross crossover, the “bronze gold” accents are used more restrainedly — only on the thin grille and the inscription on the tailgate. The Corolla Sport hatchback underwent the fewest changes: it retains the usual chrome and gloss black trim, adding only anniversary emblems and side decals. Both the crossover and the hatchback are equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, each with its own design.

Interior and technical aspects

Inside, all three models feature a significant number of “bronze gold” inserts on the dashboard, center console, steering wheel, and door panels. These elements are paired with contrasting stitching lines.

It is important to note that the special versions received no mechanical or technical updates. The Corolla Altis and Corolla Cross are available with a 1.8-liter petrol engine or a 1.8-liter hybrid powertrain. The Corolla Sport, in turn, retains the 2.0-liter petrol unit, which is the only option for this region.

Prices and availability

The anniversary models are already available for pre-order in Taiwan. Prices start at:

Future plans

It is expected that in July of this year, Toyota will introduce updated versions of the entire Corolla family in Japan, including anniversary editions. The Japanese lineup will include the sedan, Sport hatchback, Touring wagon, and Cross crossover.

It is currently unknown whether the automaker will apply a similar approach in European and North American markets.

The current 12th-generation Toyota Corolla debuted in 2018 and received an update in 2022. Thus, the model is in the final stage of its lifecycle. The next generation may arrive in 2027, inspired by a recent concept car, although Toyota has not yet announced an official launch date.

Anniversary series often serve as a way for the manufacturer to emphasize the historical significance of the model and maintain interest before the release of a new generation. In this case, Toyota is using the Corolla’s 60th anniversary to offer exclusive visual updates to buyers in Taiwan without changing the technical content. This preserves the model’s recognizability and reliability while adding freshness and a celebratory mood. Given that the next generation is expected only in a few years, such special editions may become an effective marketing tool to support sales in key markets.
