Volkswagen is introducing updates for its electric microbus, the ID. Buzz. The changes concern power, equipment, and interior ergonomics, but for now, they will only be available in the European and UK markets. North America, unfortunately, will miss the 2026 model year and may only receive the updates in 2027.

Power and Capabilities
The most important addition is the all-wheel-drive Pro 4Motion version. It is equipped with two electric motors with a combined output of 335 horsepower. The short-wheelbase version gets a 79 kWh battery, while the long-wheelbase version gets an 86 kWh battery.
The switch to all-wheel drive is not just about traction. The towing capacity increases usefully, by 600 kg more than in rear-wheel-drive models.
This raises the maximum trailer weight to 1800 kg for the standard version, although for the longer and heavier model, this figure is slightly reduced to 1600 kg.
Interior and Technology Updates
Volkswagen also used this update to tidy up the interior, focusing on usability and adding several new technological features.
The ID. Buzz now receives the latest version of the Innovision multimedia system with a cleaner menu and access to a new app store. One of the most anticipated changes is the return of conventional physical buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the inconvenient touch elements.
A practical Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function has also appeared. It allows powering external devices, such as e-bikes or other equipment, via a special adapter, turning the van into a mobile power source.
The fully electric microbus will finally get a one-pedal driving mode, where regenerative braking can bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Safety equipment has also been updated, including the addition of an optional Connected Travel Assist system with road sign and traffic light recognition.
Availability and Prospects
The updated 2026 VW ID. Buzz will arrive at dealers in Europe and the UK in the summer. Although the changes are currently limited to the other side of the Atlantic, there is a possibility they will be applied to the American-spec ID. Buzz for the 2027 model year.
