The license plates NN0088 on an Audi SQ8 belonging to a Ukrainian citizen were labeled as Nazi by the Austrian publication Heute. A typical Ukrainian (and not only them) would probably not know that Austria and Germany have a list of number combinations that are considered forbidden. In this case, the license plates on the Ukrainian’s car simply ‘blaze’ – they have two Nazi codes (according to the Austrians’ perspective).
The first and most important thing – do not show this news to the Russians. It’s hard to imagine what they might turn this information into!

But all jokes aside, the essence of the uproar in Austria, which the site TopZhyr delved into, is related to the fact that on a charged Audi SQ8 crossover with Ukrainian registration, the abbreviations “88” and “HH” are considered a tribute to Hitler in neo-Nazi circles. In Ukraine, anyone might think that the car owner chose such a number for the model index “8”, but as you can see, not everyone thinks so, or at least not everywhere. So paranoia is possible anywhere, regardless of geography…
According to the local publication, quoting reader-reporter Natalia: “This license plate is prohibited in Austria, and I don’t understand how this car can just pass by the police like that!”

However, as the article adds, “It’s unclear to what extent this specific case involves a Nazi license plate – at least in Austria, such letter and number codes are currently prohibited.” What other codes are prohibited? You will be very surprised, but there are many (such restrictions on license plates have been in effect since 2015):
- 18 (“Adolf Hitler”)
- 28 (“Blood and honor”)
- 828 (“Hail, blood and honor”)
- 74 (“Great Germany”)
- 84 (“Hail thou”)
- 88 (“Heil Hitler”)
- H8 (“Heil Hitler”)
- 311 (“Ku Klux Klan”)
- 444 (“Germany for Germans”)
- 198 (“Sieg Heil”)
- 1919 (“SS”)
- 191 (“SA”)
- 420 (April 20, Hitler’s birthday)
- C18 (“Combatant A. Hitler”)
- 1488 (“For Germany, Heil Hitler”) – by the way, such plates are on all of Dobkin’s cars.
