An interesting development will be presented at the IDEX-2021 arms exhibition – a compact tracked armored vehicle STORM. It was created by Ukrainian designers.

The work on STORM started two years ago in Kyiv, and it was specifically in Ukraine that the first prototype with a diesel engine was created. It was developed by candidate of technical sciences Oleksandr Kuznetsov. Production will be established in the UAE, as that is where they helped to finalize the project and build a sample tank.

The six-seat STORM weighs 8 tons and is equipped with a 2500-hp diesel-hybrid powerplant. It can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h and operate non-stop for 18 to 36 hours. On water, the armored vehicle can reach 30 km/h and withstand waves up to one and a half meters high. Additional equipment will be installed later to enable full submersion in water.

The tank’s battery was custom-made in China at a factory that produces batteries for Tesla. The armor is from Finland, and the shock absorbers, capable of handling loads of up to 65 tons, were ordered from Australia.

Plans also include installing turrets for a machine gun or an anti-tank system like the Ukrainian “Sarmat”. Moreover, a wheeled version of STORM is promised later.
