Ukrainian Fans of Not Buckling Up Will Have to Fork Out

We have always believed, and continue to believe, that absolutely everyone in a car should be buckled up. Moreover, we are firmly convinced that even dogs should be secured with seat belts, and luggage should definitely be fastened.

However, according to statistics, only 15% of Ukrainian drivers consistently use seat belts! As for those who buckle up in the back seat, they can be counted on fingers. And although we have repeatedly shown what happens if rear passengers are not buckled up, there are still plenty of people who buy seat belt clips to stop the warning signal from beeping.

In the near future, it will not be so cheap for fans of not using seat belts to drive without ‘nooses’ as some might think. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement Activities has supported a bill to increase the fine for drivers not using seat belts.

If the current fine is only 51 UAH, soon it will increase 17 times — up to 850 UAH. We hope that such an increase in responsibility will somehow improve the situation and make Ukrainians use seat belts.
