A rare 1983 Mercedes-Benz W126 sedan, modified by the AMG atelier, will appear at an auction in the USA. The car exists as a single copy and is known by the full name Mercedes 500 SEL 6.0 AMG Red Baron. The expected price for the lot reaches $200,000. This is reported by “Focus.ua”.
The sale will take place through the auction house RM Sotheby’s. According to the organizers, this is not just an early AMG project, but a unique specimen created at a time when the tuning atelier operated in the format of a handcrafted exclusive.

The project was implemented by AMG co-founder Hans Werner Aufrecht for his friend William Witz. Due to its bright red color, the car received the nickname Red Baron. The sedan is equipped with a body kit, a small rear spoiler, and 16-inch red Penta wheels.

The interior was refined by specialists from the Gemballa atelier. Leather and wood are used in the trim. Equipment includes climate control, a sunroof, a Kenwood stereo, power seats, and seat heating.
The sedan received an adaptive sports suspension, a limited-slip differential, and reinforced brakes. Later, a 6.0-liter V8 with 375 hp was installed, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds. The car’s mileage is 66.3 thousand km. In 2024, the Red Baron underwent a $50,000 restoration.
