More and more Ukrainians are looking towards cars from the USA and are interested in how car auctions work in America. Recently, we already talked about what cars are actually sold at the Copart auction in the USA. And today – about how they arrive in Ukraine.
In fact, there are two schemes that sellers of cars from the USA use in our country. The first is to buy a car at auction and send it for repair to Georgia, from where the car is then exported to Ukraine.
There are companies in Ukraine that refurbish cars directly here, and then put them up for sale as “just from the USA in perfect condition”. Here, by the way, is a vivid example – a car transporter with damaged cars from America heading to Kharkiv (according to the driver).
Basically, such cars cost reasonable money and really look very decent, with low mileage. But actually, in 90% of cases (or even 99%), they are rebuilt cars. That means there’s no guarantee the airbags are intact and new parts (mostly used ones) are in place. This means there’s a risk of buying a pig in a poke, but admittedly, it’s a beautiful poke.
Previously, we reminded you, we talked about used Teslas in Ukraine, most of which are also brought to Ukraine damaged and then restored.
In the case of electric cars, the situation is even worse – the battery life is unclear, it’s difficult to determine the condition of the electric motors, and rebuilt Teslas are pigs in a poke overall. Therefore, our advice: either bring a car from the USA yourself or trust reliable people.
