The Ministry of Infrastructure has prepared a draft law on taxis in Ukraine. The transportation market is expected to undergo a true revolution.
To start, they want to legalize taxi drivers in a rather unconventional way. Licenses will be canceled and instead, patents will be introduced. A patent can be purchased for a month or a year, with the annual one costing as much as the minimum wage in Ukraine.
According to Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy, this decision could replenish the budget by 800 million hryvnias a year. Currently, the taxi industry in Ukraine circulates 40 billion hryvnias annually and employs about 220 thousand people, but only 2% of them are legal.
The draft also specifies that taxi drivers must have insurance, a medical certificate, and a service book for the car.
Additionally, it is proposed to prohibit individuals with unresolved convictions for certain crimes from working as taxi drivers.
