In Ukraine, fuel sales at gas stations may cease

Queues for gasoline are returning to Ukraine, as in the first days of the war. The country is experiencing an acute fuel shortage, not only in regions where fighting is ongoing.

Queues at gas stations are observed, for example, in Kyiv, and many stations either sell fuel only with coupons or do not operate at all. The city hall urges Kyiv residents to use cars less and switch to public transport.

According to the analyst of “Consulting Group A-95” Sergiy Kuyun, it is very likely that in the near future gasoline and diesel may disappear from free sale – they will be sold only cashlessly to corporate clients. Or they will return to the norms of 10-20 liters per person.

The reasons for the shortage are clear: after the start of the war, we have only one import route left – through the western border. Moreover, due to the blown-up oil depots, finding storage is more difficult.

Logistical problems have also been added – due to the lack of railway cars, fuel has to be transported by tankers, and there are queues at the border (hello, Eurocar drivers). Experts also strongly recommend removing state price regulation, as in today’s conditions, it is simply unprofitable for many traders to import fuel. Gasoline and diesel will become more expensive, of course, but they will be available.
