They propose to resume the production of LuAZ off-road vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. No, this is not a joke – such an initiative was put forward by the All-Ukrainian Association of Automobile Importers and Dealers VAAID.
VAAID’s general director, Oleg Nazarenko, reported that such a proposal had already been sent to the government. All the technical documentation for the car has been preserved.

However, the equipment for assembly is not in such good condition. Most likely, the molds and tooling have long been destroyed, since then, the Lutsk Automobile Plant has already produced VAZs, buses, Bogdan trolleybuses, and even electric vehicles.
Moreover, LuAZ vehicles were built on ZAZ units, meaning most components for them are no longer in production. MeMZ engines are also not produced, although Oleg Nazarenko reminded that some versions of LuAZ were equipped with Italian Lombardini diesel engines.
As an alternative to LuAZ, VAAID considers old Toyota Hilux pickups – the equipment can be purchased and the production of these indestructible vehicles can be established.

It is known that LuAZ off-road vehicles were produced from 1975 to 2003. Besides the civilian LuAZ-969, a military amphibious LuAZ-967 TPK was also assembled. Even six-wheeled models were in development.
Strangely enough, LuAZ vehicles can be found all over the world. TopGir previously wrote that one such off-road vehicle was found in Japan, and another LuAZ in the USA was sold at the price of a Ford Mustang.
