In Ukraine, they want to introduce express sobriety tests for drivers

Ukrainian police may soon implement a new method of combating drunk driving – selective alcohol testing of drivers. This was reported by People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People party Denys Monastyrskyi. In Ukraine, they want to introduce express sobriety tests for drivers

He proposes allowing the Patrol Police to stop cars to check the driver’s condition. As you understand, the alcohol test will be carried out right there on the spot. It is assumed that in this case, the police will not check the driver for other violations.

Denys Monastyrskyi motivates this proposal by the fact that over 115 thousand protocols for driving under the influence have been drawn up in Ukraine in 2019. In addition, more than 160 thousand road accidents occurred last year, in which over 3000 people died. By the way, this is not a Ukrainian innovation – similar control exists in many European countries. Sometimes everyone is checked right at traffic lights or at city entrances.
