In Ukraine, the automatic capture of traffic violations has finally been launched. However, the cameras are currently operating in test mode, and drivers will start being fined from May 1.
According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko, starting from May 1, the photo capture system of violations will begin functioning in regular mode, and drivers will start receiving “letters of happiness.”
As stated by Minister of Infrastructure Vladislav Krykliy, 20 cameras are already undergoing testing in Kyiv and 5 in Odessa. They are installed in places with a high concentration of traffic accidents and are even marked on the map. Another 30 cameras will appear in the near future, and in total, the number is planned to be increased to 1000.
The cameras are already recording speed violations and the violator’s car number. For now, drivers will only receive notifications with a warning about the violation. However, starting from May 1, administrative protocols will be drawn up and sent by mail to the violators. According to Anton Gerashchenko, if the owner was not driving, they can tell the driver to pay the fine.
