BMW’s cargo solution solves a problem you didn’t even know you had

BMW introduces a new cargo box for cars

BMW has offered a new solution for those who lack trunk space in their car. Now, you can install a special Transport Box, which adds 340 liters of additional storage. It attaches to the rear bike rack and comes with built-in lights and a license plate holder to comply with traffic regulations.

This box not only increases cargo space but also remains convenient to use. It opens at an angle, so access to the main trunk is still possible even after installation. Additionally, the box can be detached and transported separately using built-in wheels.

Compatibility and alternatives

The Transport Box fits most BMW models with a tow hitch but is incompatible with the M2, M3, and M4. For these, alternative solutions are available on the market. BMW also offers traditional roof-mounted cargo boxes in three sizes—ranging from 320 to 520 liters.

The price of the new box has not yet been announced, but the rear bike rack it attaches to costs around 810 euros. Roof boxes, on the other hand, can be purchased for prices ranging from $702 to $1,260, depending on capacity.

The new Transport Box is a convenient option for those who frequently travel with a lot of gear. It is especially useful for owners of compact models like the 1-Series, where the standard trunk offers only 380 liters. With the box, the total capacity nearly doubles, making trips more comfortable without the need to switch cars.
