The Cost of Electric Vehicles Has Sharply Decreased, and the First Step Was Taken by Hyundai

Significant Price Reduction for Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai has announced a radical price reduction for the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle – up to $9,800 for certain trims. The base version now costs $35,000 compared to the previous $42,600, making it $7,600 more affordable.

Availability of Different Trims

Buyers looking for more power and range can consider the Ioniq 5 SE version for $37,500 – this is $9,150 less than last year’s price of $46,650. The largest reduction occurred for the SEL trims: $39,800 for rear-wheel drive and $43,300 for all-wheel drive models, which is $9,800 cheaper than the previous versions.

Company Strategy

Hyundai stated that they are revising the model’s positioning to “better align with current market conditions and support increased production volumes in the USA.” They added that the changes are “part of a broader strategy to maintain the Ioniq brand’s leadership in the electric vehicle market while simultaneously responding to shifting consumer expectations and competitive pressure.”

Improvements Without Quality Reduction

Despite the significant price reduction, Hyundai did not remove any equipment to cut costs. On the contrary, the vehicle received a two-level charging cable as standard equipment.

Updates in Color Selection

Among other changes is the introduction of a new matte Sage Silver paint. Cosmic Blue Pearl and Vibrant Ultimate Red colors are now available for all trims without exception.

Special Offers and Recommendations

Although Hyundai did not mention tax credits, the company is offering $7,500 in incentives for customers who purchase or lease the 2025 model. However, it might be worth waiting for the 2026 Ioniq 5 if no additional significant discounts are expected.

These changes are happening against the backdrop of the expiration of federal clean vehicle tax credits, which is forcing manufacturers to seek alternative ways to support sales. Such significant price reductions could make the Ioniq 5 one of the most competitive offers in the mid-range electric vehicle market, especially considering the retention of all technical characteristics and the addition of new equipment.
