A somewhat curious incident occurred at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2021 in California, USA. During the public demonstration of a very rare Porsche 917, the owner forgot to put the car in neutral, almost crashing it.
The corresponding moment was caught on video.
According to the video, the man wanted to start the Porsche, but the car was in gear. Naturally, as soon as the engine started, the 917 launched forward abruptly. On the bright side, the vehicle was quickly (and timely) turned off.
It must be said, the owner was lucky that it ended this way; otherwise, not only could the rare sports car have been damaged (along with the owner himself) but also bystanders.

The conclusion is only one – before starting the engine in a manual transmission car, it is crucial to ensure the car is in neutral. And if we are talking about a car worth millions of dollars (today the prices for Porsche 917 can reach 15-18 million dollars), it is doubly important to be cautious.
Note that the Porsche 917 is a racing car produced by Porsche from 1969 to 1971 for participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. A total of 59 units of the model were built.
