Chery and Jaguar Land Rover have joined forces, unveiling the Freelander 8 back in April, but little is known about the new model. The situation is gradually changing as the new brand has revealed the minimalist interior of the crossover.
Interior: Minimalism and Technology
The cabin, described as a “generational revolution in flagship cockpits,” is said to combine luxury, space, and technology. Although details are scarce, it is evident that the Freelander 8 will feature a panoramic display spanning from pillar to pillar, located at the base of the windshield.

The section in front of the driver shows the speedometer and gear indicator in the upper left corner. The middle part displays vehicle information, while the passenger side has a large clock. However, the displays are likely customizable, and the front passenger section undoubtedly serves as an entertainment system.
Screens and Controls
In addition to the screens, there is a rectangular infotainment system with a separate design. It is complemented by a row of physical switches with a metal finish.
Elsewhere, a wide center console with wood trim and what appears to be a dual wireless smartphone charger is visible. They are accompanied by a massive steering wheel, metallic accents, and minimalist door handles. Other noticeable features include an ambient lighting system and, it seems, a driver monitoring system.
Although the social media post was restrained regarding details, Yiche reports that the Freelander 8 will have a 46.3-inch panoramic display, as well as a 15.6-inch infotainment system. The model also features a 256-color ambient lighting system and an aroma diffuser that fills the cabin with the scent of an English estate.
The Freelander 8 is also reported to have a “LADY” front seat. It apparently has extensive adjustment capabilities, allowing passengers to sit and relax comfortably.
Engine and Release Date
The model is expected to appear later this year, and reports from China indicate that it will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and a battery pack with a capacity of 60.3 kWh. This is reported to give the crossover an all-electric range of 137 miles (221 km).
Thus, the Freelander 8 is positioned as a technological and comfortable vehicle, combining British style with Chinese innovation. Its market debut could be an interesting step for Chery and JLR, as the model offers an alternative to traditional SUVs with an emphasis on luxury and environmental friendliness. It remains to wait for the official technical specifications and price to assess the real competitiveness of the new product.
