Driver in New York Attempted to Forge DMV Documents Using Markers and Chalk

Homemade Car Stickers

In New York, police discovered a car with hand-drawn illustrations instead of official inspection and registration stickers. These forgeries were created using a pen, marker, and colored pencils, which surprised law enforcement officers.

Incident Details

New York is known for numerous traffic violations, including obscured license plates and unauthorized actions. To this list, individual, homemade inspection and registration stickers have now been added. These are not sophisticated forgeries but rather a project that a child with pencils in hand could have accomplished.

What Happened During the Stop?

On November 20, police stopped a car due to suspicious license plates. During the inspection, an officer noticed registration stickers that were drawn and colored, likely with pencils and markers. Law enforcement noted that this act required an “impressive level of confidence” from the driver.

It is unclear what the violator was hoping to achieve, as such stickers could not deceive the police. They had uneven text, spelling errors, for example, “New York Safety Emissions,” and colored squares that only remotely resembled official DMV decals.

As a friendly reminder, arts and crafts materials are not considered valid documents.

Public Reaction

The police publication on Facebook went viral, gathering over 30,000 reactions and 3,000 comments. Reactions ranged from surprise to appreciation of the creative, albeit illegal, approach. One commenter wrote: “Illegal, but creative.” Another jokingly added: “We have DMV at home.”

Legal Consequences

The driver was issued several fines, and the car was towed. The police did not disclose the identity of the violator or additional charges. In New York, forging such stickers can lead to serious legal problems, including fines and criminal charges that will remain on record for years.

Although this case seems almost comical, it serves as a reminder of the importance of complying with regulations. Similar incidents often attract attention due to their absurdity, but they also highlight how seriously the system treats documents confirming vehicle safety. In many cases, even the simplest attempts to circumvent the law can have long-term consequences for drivers.
