Pope’s Warning About Economic Inequality
The leader of the Catholic Church expressed concern about the growing economic inequality and the gap between the rich and the poor worldwide. Pope Leo XIV noted that decades ago, CEOs earned only six times more than ordinary workers, whereas today that difference reaches 600 times.
Elon Musk’s Compensation Plan
Earlier this month, Tesla announced a colossal compensation package for Elon Musk, which significantly exceeds the previous $56 billion rejected by a US court. If Musk achieves all the set goals, he will receive over 423 million company shares, amounting to approximately $1 trillion.
One factor I find very significant is the constantly growing gap between the incomes of the working class and the money received by the wealthiest. For example, 60 years ago, CEOs earned four to six times more than employees, and according to recent data—600 times more.
Reports of such an insane amount even reached Pope Leo XIV. During a recent interview with the media, he expressed concern about the growing gap between the rich and ordinary workers, calling it one of the reasons for polarization inside and outside the church.
The Path to a Trillion
With current assets valued at $463.2 billion, Elon Musk is already on his way to becoming the first trillionaire in history. However, he will have to overcome serious obstacles to receive the $1 trillion compensation package.
Musk must not only increase Tesla’s market capitalization to $8.5 trillion by 2035 but also ensure a sustained annual EBITA of $400 billion. Additionally, he must commercially launch 1 million fully autonomous robotaxis and deliver at least 1 million Optimus AI robots to customers. All of this depends on whether Musk remains the head of Tesla for the next decade.
The issue of economic inequality remains relevant in a world where technological innovations and financial achievements are often accompanied by social challenges. The Pope’s statements highlight the importance of balance between progress and justice, especially when it comes to global figures like Elon Musk, whose successes can have a significant impact on society.
