Xiaomi Claims Brake Fires in Its New SUV Are a Common Phenomenon

Brake Fire on Xiaomi YU7 Max During Test Drive

During track testing, the brakes of the new Xiaomi YU7 Max caught fire – the temperature reached over 600°C. The company explained that the cause was the ignition of organic materials in the brake pads, but the functionality of the brakes remained intact. It was also revealed that the regenerative braking system was not used during the test, which increased the load on the conventional brakes.

The incident occurred during a presentation for the media. The video shows technicians measuring the temperature of the brake pads – it reached 619°C. Xiaomi stated that such a phenomenon is normal under extreme loads and does not affect the operation of the brakes. At the same time, the vehicle’s weight (over 2.3 tons) and the absence of regeneration could have intensified the heating.

This is a completely different situation from last year’s cases of complete brake failure on the SU7. Here, the braking system functioned properly despite the high temperatures

The YU7 Max is a powerful electric crossover with two engines (682 hp), which recently set a record at the Nürburgring. The company has already received almost 300 thousand pre-orders for this model. Similar incidents, although technically explainable, may raise questions about the vehicle’s operation under extreme conditions. Especially considering that Xiaomi is a relatively new player in the electric vehicle market.
