Details That Change Everything
However, if you look closely at its ‘eyes,’ or more precisely at the headlights, you can notice something unusual. Although the car originally had four round headlights, now there are only two. The inner headlights have been replaced by air intakes, because, like the modern Challenger, this Dodge is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat engine. That’s the surprise.

The Master’s Work
The project was created by Dave Dudek, who paired the Hellcat engine with a five-speed manual transmission and put significant effort into updating both the exterior and interior. The result is a thorough modernization, not just a cosmetic repair.
The body is painted in a pleasant, restrained shade of blue, which contrasts with the chrome front and rear bumpers. The car also received new 17-inch wheels, black side stripes, and a new hood with ‘gills’ that help cool the Hellcat engine as much as possible for a modern V8 in a classic body.
Interior and Technical Enhancements
The interior does not disappoint either: the seats are reupholstered in blue fabric to match the body. A pistol-grip shifter sits next to the classic three-spoke steering wheel with a wooden rim.
Among other significant updates are a new suspension, improved rack-and-pinion steering, and new Wilwood brakes front and rear. The muscle car also features new exhaust pipes styled to resemble the originals. Adding to its desirability is the fact that it is one of only 30 original Charger R/T models with a sunroof.
A Rare Example at Auction
Such a clean muscle car that hides over 700 horsepower behind two fake headlights doesn’t come along often. Mecum Auctions will sell it at its Monterey auction in August.
This car is an excellent example of how a restomod can combine classic style with modern power without losing authenticity. Replacing the headlights with air intakes is not just a technical solution but also a visual hint that something special lies under the hood.
