Hyundai and General Motors have announced a joint development of five new vehicles, primarily targeted at the markets of Central and South America, including a van that is also planned to be supplied to the USA. Among these models is a mid-size pickup truck, which, if it looks similar to these speculative visualizations, could become a real hit for both manufacturers.
Design and Visualization
Since the mid-size pickup will only appear on the market in 2028, its design remains a mystery. Digital artist Theottle has reimagined the current GMC Canyon, adding Hyundai styling elements. The result combines features of the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Palisade into a robust, square pickup that looks amazingly cohesive. If the production model is similar, it could interest not only buyers in Latin America but also generate demand in North America.
Key Exterior Details
The overall shape and proportions of the Canyon are preserved, but the front and rear body sections are updated, with new black plastic fenders added. The front is dominated by a square radiator grille with a large Hyundai logo and an LED light bar above it.
The headlights are inspired by the Palisade’s design but have a simpler and squarer shape, which better suits the pickup. A robust bumper with visible red tow hooks and skid plate protection has been added. The rear lights also resemble those on the Palisade but are wider and lower. The rear bumper and tailgate are integrated neatly and functionally.
Technical Features and Future Plans
There is no information yet on the powertrains that will be used in the joint pickup, but Hyundai has confirmed that each of the five models developed with GM will have internal combustion engines and hybrid variants. Both brands have several different gasoline, diesel, and hybrid setups that could be utilized.
In addition to the mid-size pickup, Hyundai and GM will also work on a compact car, a compact crossover, a compact pickup, and an electric commercial van as part of the joint program. This partnership could significantly expand both companies’ presence in key markets by combining technological innovation and design expertise.
