People’s deputies propose penalties for odometer tampering during the sale of used cars. The relevant bill No. 10216 has already been registered. According to the document, the fine for such falsification can range from 500 to 1000 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.
If odometer tampering is detected for the first time, the person may face a fine ranging from 8500 to 17000 hryvnias. If the same violation is detected for the second time within a year, the fine will be from 17000 to 34000 hryvnias. Odometers will be monitored by the National Police of Ukraine.
“The practice of odometer tampering of a used vehicle during the sale is quite common today. In order to prevent deceiving buyers, it is proposed to establish administrative liability for odometer tampering of a used vehicle for sale to third parties, which is discovered during the registration (re-registration) of the vehicle,” according to the explanatory note.
