100,000 BYD vehicles in the UK in three years
Chinese expansion in Europe continues, and BYD has reached a significant milestone in the UK. The company recently sold its 100,000th vehicle in the country – just over three years after starting sales in March 2023. The manufacturer noted that other brands took “decades” to achieve such a feat.
Expansion of model lineup and dealer network
BYD’s growth is impressive: the brand started with just the Atto 3 model, and now their lineup includes ten different vehicles. Additionally, the dealer network has grown from five sales outlets to 143.
Development does not slow down: in the first half of the year, the company sold 37,995 vehicles in the UK. That’s more than a third of the total 100,000 in just six months. According to SMMT, June sales of BYD increased by 36.2% – to 6,242 units, with a market share of 2.93%.

BYD UK head Bono Ge said: “We are incredibly grateful to the 100,000 BYD owners who trusted us, and to the 100,000 families who welcomed BYD into their lives.”
The company also stated that it plans to introduce even more models in the UK, including the Shark pickup, the Ti 7 crossover, as well as Denza vehicles such as the Z and Z9 GT.
Success of other Chinese brands in the UK
BYD is not the only Chinese brand achieving success in the British market. The Jaecoo J7 crossover from Chery quickly established itself as one of the most popular. Its price starts from £24,555 (approximately $33,072), and in June it became the seventh best-selling model – dealers sold 3,145 units. In total, 23,840 units have been sold since the beginning of the year, placing the Jaecoo J7 in third place after the Ford Puma and Kia Sportage.

Thus, Chinese automakers are increasingly confidently conquering the British market, offering competitive electric vehicles and affordable crossovers. BYD, with its strategy of rapid expansion of the model lineup and dealer network, demonstrates that it can catch up with traditional brands in a matter of years, not decades. Considering that over a third of all vehicles were sold in the last six months alone, the growth rate is only accelerating, and likely the next 100,000 sales will be achieved much faster. This indicates a shift in consumer preferences and growing trust in Chinese technology in Europe.
