Test drive of the new Citroen C1 in Ukraine: urban chic

The second generation Citroen C1 hatchback has been known since 2014, but it appeared in Ukraine only recently. Its predecessor was quite popular in our area and we decided to find out if the new Citroen C1 is capable of surprising. Test drive of the new Citroen C1 in Ukraine: urban chic

In terms of size, the newcomer is comparable to the first generation model – 3466 mm long, 1615 mm wide and 1460 mm high with a wheelbase of 2340 mm. As before, the smallest Citroen shares a platform with the Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo, but now it differs much more from its counterparts externally. The design of the Citroen C1 has become more expressive and distinctive, so the small car definitely draws attention among the flow of traffic.

Its original front part with «two-level» optics may or may not be to your liking, but it will not leave anyone indifferent. The model’s distinctive feature remains the all-glass tailgate. The test car is also distinguished by its two-tone color, 15-inch black alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights. Test drive of the new Citroen C1 in Ukraine: urban chic

The interior trim is enlivened by black lacquered overlays and body color inserts in the doors. The instrument cluster is quite compact and dominated by a large speedometer with an onboard computer screen inside.

On the left is a thin strip of digital tachometer. Interestingly, the instrument cluster is height-adjustable along with the steering column. In the top version of the Citroen C1 2018, a 7.0-inch touchscreen is provided. The multimedia menu is very simple and does not require long adaptation. The triangular climate block with a small screen inside looks stylish.

The front seats with integrated headrests are comfortable and surprisingly hold the back well. They have enough adjustments, but the steering column only changes the tilt angle and the range of adjustments is not the largest. Thin roof pillars provide excellent visibility, and large side mirrors also help. But the rearview mirror is very tiny. The new Citroen C1 remains a four-seater, as evidenced by a pair of headrests in the second row.

Tall people (over 180 cm) will feel a lack of headroom. By the way, the rear windows do not roll down but open to the side like a vent. The trunk volume is 180 L in the normal state and 780 L with the rear seats folded in a 50:50 ratio. A spare wheel is provided under the floor. Only the threshold is quite high.

The top Citroen C1 is quite well equipped – keyless entry system, climate control, rearview camera, light sensor, audio system with steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, seat heating. There are even preventive braking and lane keeping systems. Test drive of the new Citroen C1 in Ukraine: urban chic

The Citroen C1 in Ukraine is offered with only one engine – a 1-liter three-cylinder with a power output of 68 HP. Its maximum torque is small – 95 Nm and is reached at a high 4300 rpm. Therefore, the engine has to be constantly revved up, and as the rpm increases, it becomes quite loud.

With our fuel and turbocharged engines, turbo repairs can be considered «consumable», so it is better not to over-rev the engine. Test drive of the new Citroen C1 in Ukraine: urban chic

Of course, you should not expect hurricane dynamics from the Citroen C1, and overtaking on the highway needs to be planned in advance. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 15.9 s, and the maximum speed is 157 km/h. However, a clear advantage of the hatchback is its fuel economy. Even in rush hour traffic jams, fuel consumption did not exceed 6.7 L/100 km.

The five-door version is available exclusively with a robotic gearbox (the three-door version only comes with a manual). In automatic mode, at low speed, gear changes happen with noticeable jerks and vibrations, making you feel like a novice driver on a car with a manual transmission. In manual mode, the robot behaves much better and gear changes happen much more smoothly. Moreover, the gear shift indicator tells you when to switch «up,» and during deceleration the gearbox shifts down by itself. There are also paddle shifters.

The compact Citroen C1 is excellent at maneuvering in city traffic. Its steering is very light, and the turning diameter is only 9.6 m. Unlike many of its classmates, the hatchback’s suspension is quite soft, so the numerous potholes on Kyiv roads are absorbed smoothly and not loudly. Overall, the noise isolation for an A-class model is good, and up to 110-120 km/h it is quiet in the cabin. pawnshops – Kit-lombard.in.ua
