A rare Alfa Romeo Tipo 256 Coupe 1939 sports car is up for auction at Gooding & Company in California. It was developed by Enzo Ferrari himself.
As is known, in the pre-war period, Ferrari led the Alfa Romeo racing team. Already then, his racing cars were red and had prancing horses on the hood.
But those were racing cars, and the first road sports car was exactly the Tipo 256.
It was based on the elegant Alfa Romeo 6C coupe, but equipped with a 120-horsepower racing six-cylinder engine developed by Ferrari’s team.
The Alfa Romeo was ordered by Italian politician and lawyer Giovanni Maria Cornaggia Medici. Interestingly, he even raced the car in the famous Mille Miglia race.
Over 80 years, the Alfa Romeo Tipo 256 Coupe had 10 owners, and after a recent restoration, the car collected awards at numerous retro shows. The estimated price of the Alfa Romeo is 2.75-3.5 million dollars.
