A rare Soviet off-road vehicle GAZ-25 from 1938 is up for sale. The price of the car is impressive – 460 thousand dollars. And this is not an exclusive Stalin’s limousine or Brezhnev’s.
The fact is, this is the rarest six-wheeled version of the GAZ-M1. Only two of these cars were produced, and one of them was restored to perfect condition in Smirnov’s design bureau in St.
Petersburg. It is actually this one that’s being sold now.
The experimental GAZ-25 was created as a high-mobility staff car for the army. The Emka was lengthened and another axle was added. The front wheels are suspended on longitudinal springs, while the two rear axles are on semi-elliptical springs.
Only the two rear axles are driving, which means the GAZ-25 has a 6×4 formula. Under the hood is a standard 2.8-liter engine with 50 hp, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.
The six-wheeled GAZ remained a prototype. Instead, a simpler all-wheel-drive Emka GAZ-61, with better off-road capabilities, went into production.
