Toyota has introduced a slightly updated version of the Land Cruiser 300 series in Japan. The vehicle received a new 12.3-inch digital cockpit, improved anti-theft features, and other changes to comply with legal requirements. However, orders for this SUV have been suspended as the company prioritizes production for customers already in the long waiting list. The 2026MY Land Cruiser 300 has no stylistic updates compared to the original released in August 2021. Toyota focused on technological improvements.
Inside, the main emphasis is on the new 12.3-inch LCD with customizable graphics, which is standard for medium and high trims (base models get a smaller 7-inch display). This is combined with the standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, which can optionally be replaced with a larger 12.3-inch display. Land Cruiser is extremely popular in Japan, so Toyota decided to introduce additional anti-theft measures. The “My Car Start Lock” feature from communication services allows owners to remotely lock the engine from their smartphones, preventing thieves from driving away. Additionally, the fingerprint scanning start button is now standard across all trims, and there is a system that detects whether the smart key is near the vehicle.
All this is combined with an alarm system with a tilt sensor and an immobilizer. To meet the requirements in Japan, the 300 was updated with an improved automatic braking feature in case of collision, adding safety measures for cyclists. It also received an event recorder and enhanced cybersecurity. Due to the model’s constant popularity, the Land Cruiser 300 can be purchased with either a twin-turbo 3.6 V6 gasoline engine or a 3.3-liter V6 diesel engine, both of which work with a 10-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. According to Toyota, it meets the latest Japanese emission standards.
The cost of the updated Land Cruiser 300 starts at ¥5,252,500 ($35,100) for the base GX trim with a gasoline engine and goes up to ¥8,136,800 ($54,400) for the most expensive diesel trim. Compared to the respective trims of the previous version, prices have increased by ¥130,900-152,500 ($875-1,020). The demand for the Land Cruiser 300 in Japan has always exceeded the available supply volume, so Toyota is not accepting new orders until the existing backlog is resolved. The company has published an apology on its official website.
