Not everyone knows that at one time Maserati produced not only cars but also motorcycles. One of them was recently put up for auction in France.
The 1955 Maserati 125 Tipo T2 will go under the hammer, with an estimated price of 12-16 thousand euros, that is, at the level of modern sportbikes.
Maserati motorcycles were produced from 1953 to 1960. The idea to produce two-wheeled vehicles was born to the then-owners of the brand – the Orsi family, as there was an acute shortage of affordable transport in post-war Italy.
Adolfo Orsi acquired a small factory Italmoto, and the first model was based on the German motorcycle DKW RT125. The Maserati 125 Tipo T2 was equipped with a single-cylinder 125cc engine with 6.8 hp, and its top speed was 100 km/h.

Later, models with engines of 160 and 250 cc appeared, as well as a 50cc moped. However, financial problems of Maserati’s owners and the emergence of more advanced models from Ducati, MV Augusta, and Benelli forced the production of bikes to cease.
By the way, did you know that there also exists a Lamborghini motorcycle?
