Opel introduces the new electric Mokka GSE
Automakers take different approaches to camouflaging prototypes. While Hyundai prefers to hide its new models under black covers with foam blocks, Opel, on the contrary, does everything possible to draw attention to its new model. The bright yellow and black film with the inscription “OMG!” on this crossover emphasizes its aggressive style and aligns with the brand’s advertising campaign.
Previously, the GSE lineup was only offered with hybrid engines, but now it will become exclusively electric. The first model in this lineup will be the Mokka GSE, which is built on the same Stellantis platform as the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior. Although Opel has not yet revealed all the technical details, it is known that the rally-inspired sports version will have front-wheel drive and a power output of 278 hp, identical to its competitors.
Technical features and design
The Mokka GSE is expected to feature a 54 kWh battery (usable capacity — 51 kWh), which will provide a range of approximately 320 km. The charging speed is limited to 100 kW, which could be a drawback for those who frequently travel long distances. Large wheels add aggressiveness to the car but also affect efficiency.
The design of the Mokka GSE does not differ significantly from the standard version, though yellow brake calipers and sporty elements highlight its belonging to the GSE lineup. The interior is also expected to have a more sporty appearance. The full debut of the model will take place soon.
Compared to the Alfa Romeo Junior, the Mokka GSE looks more restrained, which may contradict Opel’s overly bold marketing claims. However, if the brand can offer a competitive price and additional options, this model could become an interesting choice in the electric crossover market.
