BMW introduces the new design philosophy Neue Klasse
BMW is actively developing a new design language, Neue Klasse, which will soon appear in all models of the brand. In the near future, a restyling of the 5-Series is expected with radical changes in appearance. The company’s design director emphasized that it is important for all cars of the brand to have common stylistic features.
The new stage of BMW’s design development will begin with the presentation of the first electric Neue Klasse model at the auto show in Munich. After this, updates will affect other lineups, including the 3-Series, which will receive both electric and traditional versions. Even the recently introduced 5-Series is already preparing for serious changes in the exterior and possibly the interior.
Rapid update of the entire lineup
According to BMW design director Adrian van Hooydonk, Neue Klasse will quickly spread to all models, including the 2-Series, X2, 7-Series, and X7. He noted:
We will ensure that the new design language we are developing covers the entire product portfolio. There will be no “new” and “classic” BMW—the entire brand will change its appearance.
The full update of the lineup is expected to take about three and a half years. This is due to the rapid development of technologies and growing customer expectations for innovations. BMW emphasizes that each model will retain its individuality, but at the same time, all of them will look modern and harmonious.
It remains only to wait how this design revolution will affect the perception of the brand. Given past discussions about BMW’s style, Neue Klasse could become either a new stage of success or a subject of lively debate among brand enthusiasts. However, the company is confident—the time for change has come.
