Fire at Jacksonville airport parking lot
A large-scale fire broke out in the multi-level parking lot of Jacksonville airport, damaging about 50 cars. The fire started on the second floor, leading to a partial collapse of the structure. The airport was forced to close for several hours, and recovery efforts may take weeks.
According to preliminary data, the fire originated from one of the cars, but the exact cause is still being determined. Some already suggest that an electric vehicle could be to blame, given recent similar incidents. Surveillance cameras recorded how the fire quickly spread, causing collapses on the second and third floors.
Consequences and response
The parking lot, which has 1,200 spaces and is located near the main terminal, remains closed. Airport representatives stated:
An official collapse zone has been established. Currently, only authorized personnel have access to the garage. We are working to identify safe areas for vehicle evacuation.
Fortunately, there are no casualties, but travelers are forced to use other parking lots. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
Photos published by the fire department show that many cars are completely destroyed. Vehicle owners and insurance companies are already facing difficulties due to the scale of the damage. The fire is another example of the dangers that modern vehicles can pose, especially against the backdrop of the growing popularity of electric cars.
