This unique Mustang lost $52,000 in value after just 75 miles of driving

Rare Mustang SA-40 Speedster lost value in two years

A unique Ford Mustang SA-40 Speedster, created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Saleen, was recently resold for a price significantly lower than its original. The yellow-and-black convertible with just 75 miles on the odometer was auctioned off for $104,500, even though it was bought for $156,472 in 2023.

The car is finished in Speedlab Yellow with black leather upholstery and Steve Saleen’s signature. Among its features are a carbon fiber trunk lid, unique graphic elements, and an individual plaque. Under the hood lies a 5.0-liter supercharged Coyote V8 engine producing 800 horsepower, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Why did the price drop?

Although this Mustang boasts a number of upgrades, including a specialized suspension and aerodynamic components, its value has significantly decreased. This may be due to the fact that the Saleen brand no longer holds the same prestige as it once did. Additionally, the base version of the Mustang on which the SA-40 Speedster is built cost only $57,950.

Despite this, the new owner acquired a true rarity—a car in excellent condition that has barely been used. Interestingly, the only owner before the sale was Steve Saleen himself, making this deal even more unusual.

This case demonstrates how quickly prices for collectible cars can change, even if they have limited production runs and exclusive features. At the same time, for fans of the Saleen brand, this Mustang remains a valuable specimen that could become a good investment in the future.
