Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Becomes the Fastest American Car on the Nürburgring
Chevrolet has officially confirmed that its powerful hybrid Corvette ZR1X has become the fastest American car on the legendary Nürburgring track. GM engineer Drew Cattell covered the 20.8-kilometer distance in 6 minutes and 49.275 seconds using the all-wheel-drive version with 1250 hp.
“No manufacturer has ever attempted a Nürburgring run in this way before,” stated GM President Mark Reuss.
How Other Corvette Models Performed on the Track
Interestingly, the conventional ZR1 version without the hybrid front axle (1064 hp) was only 1.5 seconds slower with a time of 6:50.763. The naturally aspirated Z06 with 670 hp completed the lap in 7:11.826. It is worth noting that all results were achieved by company engineers, not professional drivers, making these figures even more impressive.
The cars were serial production models for the American market, equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires. Although the Corvette did not manage to outperform some European supercars, its results confirm the high level of engineering prowess of American developers. The small difference between the hybrid and conventional ZR1 versions is particularly impressive, calling into question the necessity of additional complex technologies for improving track performance.
