BMW recalls electric cars due to battery problems
The BMW company has announced a recall of 136 electric cars in the USA due to potential problems with battery modules. According to the report, during the assembly of the modules, the permissible compression force of the elements might have been exceeded, which over time could lead to their damage after multiple charges.
In the event of a battery module failure, the high-voltage system may shut down, leading to a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of fire. BMW believes that all 136 cars have this problem, so dealers have already received instructions to replace the faulty modules.
Which models are involved in the recall?
The list includes:
Interestingly, BMW expects potential battery problems only until the end of 2026, but decided to take measures in advance. Owners will receive recall notifications on September 5, and the module replacement will be carried out free of charge.
This is already the second case of recalling BMW electric models in the last month. Earlier, the company reported a software glitch that could lead to an unexpected shutdown of the high-voltage system. Such incidents underscore the importance of thorough testing of new technologies, especially when it comes to the safety of electric vehicles.
