This Could Be the Most Expensive Ferrari F40 in the World

Rare Ferrari F40 LM Prepares for Auction

The Ferrari F40 has long been considered a legend, but its racing version, the F40 LM, belongs to the category of true automotive myths. This model was created to compete in races on both sides of the Atlantic and is one of the rarest in the Ferrari lineup.

One such unique specimen, specifically the 14th of 19 cars produced, will be sold at auction during Monterey Car Week. This GTC version is the most powerful of all F40s, and its price is expected to be between $8.5 and $9.5 million.

History of the Race Car

Chassis number 95448 was initially owned by Swiss resident Walter Hagmann, who owned several Ferraris. Subsequently, the car participated in various races across Europe. In 2014, it was fully restored at the Michelotto factory, returning it to its original Rosso Corsa color.

Auction house RM Sotheby’s reports that prior to the sale, the car received new fuel tanks, belts, and filters, as well as special Michelin racing tires.

The LM version differs not only in its more powerful engine but also in its significantly lighter construction – weighing only 2,315 pounds. For comparison, that’s 700 pounds less than a standard F40.

This auction will be a test for collectors seeking truly unique specimens. The F40 LM remains one of the most valuable cars in Ferrari’s history, and its sale could set a new record for this model. Demand for such rare racing versions only grows over the years, especially among investors who see them not just as cars, but as true works of art.
