Mazda Impresses Europe with High Price for New Electric Sedan

Mazda 6e Enters the European Market

Mazda 6e

The new electric Mazda 6e is already arriving at European dealerships. This sedan, developed jointly with Chinese partners, features the refined design characteristic of the Mazda brand. Although the technical platform is borrowed from the Chinese EZ-6 model, the exterior of the 6e has unique features.

Cost for European Buyers

In China, the electric EZ-6 sedan starts at 159,800 yuan (approximately €20,700), while in Germany the base version of the Mazda 6e starts at €44,900. Even considering differences in trim levels and taxes, the European price turns out to be more than double the Chinese price.

For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 in Germany starts at €39,990, and the BMW i4 eDrive40 starts at €60,600

Technical Specifications

The Mazda 6e is offered in two variants:

  • Base version with a 68.8 kWh battery and a range of 479 km
  • Version with an enlarged 80 kWh battery and a range of 552 km

Interestingly, the model with the larger battery has slightly less power (242 hp vs. 255 hp) but provides a significantly greater range. Both versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds.

Interior and Features

The Mazda 6e’s interior is executed in a minimalist style with premium materials, including leather and Alcantara. Features include a large multimedia system screen, a digital instrument panel, and wireless smartphone charging.

Although there are electric vehicles on the market with better technical specifications, the Mazda 6e may attract buyers with its design and the emotional driving experience. Market conditions will show whether there are enough sedan enthusiasts among European buyers, who are increasingly preferring crossovers.

The price difference between regions may be explained not only by tax policy but also by brand positioning strategy. In Europe, Mazda traditionally occupies the niche of premium yet accessible cars, while in China the brand is forced to compete with numerous local electric vehicle manufacturers.
