New Nissan Xterra to Appear in 2028
Nissan plans to return the Xterra model to the market, which was discontinued back in 2015. This will be part of the brand’s strategy to renew its vehicle lineup to improve financial performance.
Details About the New Model
During a national dealer meeting in Las Vegas, Nissan’s head Ivan Espinosa confirmed that the Xterra will return in 2028 as an affordable and reliable SUV. Although technical specifications have not yet been disclosed, a teaser with an image of the model was shown, revealing a vertical grille and square headlights.
Sources report that the Xterra will use a body-on-frame platform that will underpin the updated Frontier, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60.
Demand and Expectations
Dealers are confident that the new Xterra will be successful due to high demand for SUVs such as the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, and Toyota Land Cruiser. One dealer noted that such vehicles bring good profits.
Technology and Production
The Xterra is expected to receive a V6 engine with range-extending capability and a battery that will provide up to 75 miles of electric driving. Production of the model is planned at the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi.
Other News from Nissan
The company is also working on the fourth generation Rogue, which is set to debut in 2027. The model will receive an updated V-shaped grille and a rear LED light bar. The new Rogue will be equipped with a third-generation e-Power system, and the Infiniti QX50 will be based on it.
Updated versions of the Nissan Sentra and Infiniti Q50 are also expected, with the Sentra possibly appearing as early as next year.
Head of Nissan Americas Christian Meunier stated: “We are focused on the product and are just getting started. We plan better to have the right cars in the right place.”
The return of the Xterra could be a key moment for Nissan, as the SUV market continues to grow. The company is betting on a combination of traditional reliability and modern technology, which could interest both longtime brand fans and new buyers. This step also shows that Nissan is trying to adapt to changes in the automotive industry, particularly the transition to more eco-friendly technologies.
